Halloween candy and your health
With Halloween right around the corner, some of us prepare our costumes or party gatherings, but most all of us prepare our waistlines.
It’s true, Halloween is known most for the amount of candy that can be collected and eaten all in one given night.
However, according to David Zinczenko in his Eat This, Not That articles, he explains the dangers of Halloween candy on our health.
Zinczenko says eating junk food, aka, Halloween candy, does not satisfy a sweet tooth, it creates them. He advises to limit candy intake on October 31 because if you start before that you may end up with a junk food addiction. And yes, junk food actually is addictive.
A lot of people may not count calories, but on Halloween you might want to start. Zinczenko recommends a limit of 400 calories in candy. This is a good number which allows you to splurge with the candy but won’t let you get too carried away.
Do not change your eating habits on Halloween day. Eating dinner is vital, especially if you are trying to limit your candy intake. Dinner will take the edge off of your sweet cravings and you will eat less candy.
He also recommends not to hand our your own personal favorite candy items. During the slow parts of the night you might find yourself indulging in your own bowl of goodies.
In fact, after Halloween, get rid of your candy bowl. Research done in Alabama has shown if snacks are within arms reach, people will consume more calories while watching TV.
