The Sunrise anime series, Code Geass: Lelouch of the Rebellion, has the Byronic hero, Lelouch Lamperouge as the lead character whose real name is Lelouch VI Britannia. Lelouch’s popularity brought him three popular male character awards in succession from Animage magazine’s annual Anime Grand Prix in 2006, 2007, and 2008. Born to the Emperor of Britannia, Charles zi Britannia, Lelouch became the Eleventh Prince of the Holy Britannian Empire. Seeing his mother left assassinated and his sister left blind and crippled, Lelouch renounces his entitlement to the throne. This move angered his father who banished him to Japan, where he was used as a political pawn during the Sakuradite conflict.

Lelouch’s stay in Japan during the conflict, make him and his sister conceal their identities and seek the help of his mother’s friends, the Ashford family. Hurt by his mother’s death and father’s careless attitude, Lelouch inspires to build a better world for Nunnally and find the reason behind his mother assassination. His strong philosophical beliefs that the world can live in harmony rather than in competition and conflict leads him to believe that he must be prepared to be killed if he should kill. Lelouch is a highly intelligent being and is capable of devising and executing strategies with precision, which is what sees him through his adventures.
